February is Black History Month, and Moduloktopus has teamed up with Boston DJ Mad Martigann to honor it through song. I'll let Mod explain:
In honor of Black History Month we wanted to give you a raw, powerful anthem to rock out and maintain the roots alive. The words of the Negro Spiritual song by Bessie Jones enhance the vivid theme around the powerful heroes in history that give strength to the spirit of Change and human rights. It's still been less than 40 years since we all were allowed to drink from the same water fountains, so please next time you're out on the town share some love with your community.
To be honest, I think a trap remix is probably the worst way one could pay homage to black social progress. The product, though, is quite a banger, the vocal sample is rock-solid and expertly handled, and the accompanying video is raw as promised. It makes you think, but even if it doesn't, I'm sure it will make you dance.
